MANIFESTATION @202030 – THE BERLIN FASHION SUMMIT
202030 – The Berlin Fashion Summit opened its digital doors for the first time in January 2021 during the Corona Lockdown. The Summit was launched by our co-founders Magdalena Schaffrin and Max Gilgenmann from Studio MM04 in cooperation with Marte Hentschel from Sqetch and Friederike von Wedel-Parlow from Benficial Design Institute. But what exactly does 202030 - The Berlin Fashion Summit do? It deals with the big question of how we want to shape the future of the fashion industry.
The Corona pandemic has acted like an accelerant on the issue of sustainability (also) in the fashion industry and has spurred society and industry to think and act. Collapsed supply chains, resource shortages, and a lack of workers acted as a reality check for a possible future for the industry. In its digital editions, 202030 - The Berlin Fashion Summit analyzed these issues in advance in pop-up think tanks and working groups with international experts, activists and leading protagonists and developed approaches to solutions. The results were then digitally presented to an expert audience in keynotes and best practices and discussed together.
From September 5 to 7, the second physical manifestation and fourth edition of 202030 - The Berlin Fashion Summit took place in a new location at the Colloseum Theater in Prenzlauer Berg, as part of Berlin Fashion Week. The title and focus of this year's event was "Fashion for Positive Impact: Regenerative Transformation". In the beautiful brick foyer of the former cinema, our founders Marte Hentschel, Magdalena Schaffrin and Max Gilgenmann also presented the concept of VORN - The Berlin Fashion Hub.They gave exciting first insights into the new project funded by the Senate as well as an update on the latest developments.
A total of three days were spent talking together with industry insiders about regenerative cultures, material innovations, the Metaverse and progressive upcycling. In addition, the results of the pop-up think tanks were presented, which is also an integral part in the preliminary work of the manifestations. In addition to the conference program, there were a variety of networking opportunities and exhibits from our partners* All Good(s) and Estethica. We were especially pleased to welcome VORN's first members at 202030 - The Berlin Fashion Summit with representatives from DAWN DENIM, #DAMUR, Fashion For Bio-Diversity, Estethica and the Beneficial Design Institute. The partners of our VORN Academy Kornit, Zalando and Unity were also present at the Colloseum.
VORN - The Berlin Fashion Hub and 202030 - The Berlin Fashion Summit are not only intertwined in terms of content and expertise, but also conceptually. Both focus on active cooperation within the industry - in close collaboration with politics, initiatives and researchers. With VORN, this approach finally gets a physical location in Berlin, where the change of a positive future of the fashion and textile industry can be driven forward.
