VORN BRINGS THE TRAVELING EXHIBITION OF THE FASHION FOR GOOD MUSEUM TO BERLIN

In the face of global warming and the pervasive issue of plastic pollution, the fashion industry, as one of the world's largest sectors, stands at a pivotal crossroads. It's time for a significant shift. The Fashion for Good Museum's remarkable travelling exhibition, GROW, was in Berlin at VORN - The Berlin Fashion Hub to illuminate the path toward a sustainable and circular fashion future.

Throughout human history, nature has been a wellspring of inspiration and a source of valuable resources. For generations, natural materials like cotton and linen formed the cornerstone of clothing, thanks to their biodegradable properties. Today, the demand for fashion that is quick, affordable, and available around the clock has led to the extensive use of plastic-based materials. Unfortunately, these materials are not biodegradable and pose a significant environmental burden. The quest is now on to discover novel materials that combine the convenience of synthetic fabrics with the eco-friendliness of sustainable alternatives. However, groundbreaking research and material innovations often remain hidden from the public eye.

Enter GROW, a trailblazing travelling exhibition brought to life as part of the EU project Allthings.bioPRO by the Fashion for Good Museum. GROW delves into groundbreaking innovations and unveils never-before-seen biomaterials through six meticulously crafted fashion ensembles. These creations are the brainchild of four talented Dutch designers: Huong Nguyen, Frederieke Broekgaarden, Eva Sonneveld, and Charlotte Bakkenes. The exhibition showcases materials derived from banana trees, leather alternatives sourced from coconuts and cork powder, and even a unique dress crafted from "silk" derived from orange peels, created by fashion designer and illustrator Karim Adduchi. In addition to these stunning designs, accompanying texts provide valuable insights into the sustainable properties and implications of each piece. Renowned photographer Christian Mpamo's captivating visuals, coupled with text by Zainab Goelaman, bring this exhibition to life in a truly immersive way.

Originally showcased at the Fashion for Good Museum in Amsterdam from 2021 to 2022, the GROW exhibition has made its way to Berlin, thanks in part to funding from the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (JU) under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, grant agreement No 887070. The JU receives support from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and the Bio-based Industries Consortium.
